Newer study and the benefits
This article. “Studying Abroad: The Role of College Students’ Goals on the Development of Cross-Cultural Skills and Global Understanding” written by Anastasia Kitsantas covers a study she conducted about study abroad students and she examined the impact of students’ cross-cultural skills and global understanding. This article is great for my research because, it includes other studies that people conducted. There’s also statistics that I could use in my paper! 🙂

“New Directions in Study Abroad”
This article goes in to more to the importance of traveling/studying abroad in getting a job. William McCormack, the writer claims that globalization has taken effect, and the United States is in the forefront, it is now important to have leadership as well as travel experience in today’s workforce. It continues on saying the benefits of traveling/studying abroad and how it applies in the working place. He also gives examples of careers that demand the benefits of traveling/studying abroad, such as toxicology and careers in business.

1955-1956 Study
“American Objectives in Study Abroad” written by John and Jeanne Gullahorn. This article presented their research that they conducted with students who studied abroad in France. They questioned and interviewed various students and asked the reasons why they wanted to study abroad (more specifically France). Out of about 600 students questioned and/or interviewed, the top eight most reasons were, professional or educational advancement, study under a recognized professional on the field, work in outstanding research libraries, gain understanding for the host country’s culture, become a master in the language, personal freedom, a sense of adventure, and building international understanding.

“Everyone Deserves an Education without Borders”
A school newspaper article, “Everyone Deserves an Education without Borders” Â of the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville. This article was written by English Professor, Evan Balkan who writes about the importance that everyone has the chance to study abroad. Especially in community colleges, he states that students don’t have the same opportunity compared to 4 year universities and colleges. He briefly talks about the importance and benefits of studying abroad. For example, study abroad creates more open-minded and well-rounded people.

The title of this post was stated by our First Lady Michelle Obama as she addresses about a thousand young people from the Washington DC area. In honor of the state visit by ChinesePresident, Hu Jintao, Mrs. Obama notifies the audience of “100,000 Strong Initiative” a program that encourages Americans to have the opportunity to study in China.
